Roux to Present During Problematic Groundwater Contaminants Forum
Wednesday May 26 – Thursday May 27 A virtual event, Problematic Groundwater Contaminants: More Than PFAS Forum, is being presented by the National Groundwater Association (NGWA). While PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) raise concerns and present challenges, many of the difficult issues associated with groundwater assessment and remediation are related to PFAS’ predecessors. This forum’s objective is to share current relevant studies, outcomes, and applications.
Roux’s Jon Rohrer, P.G., C.Hg. (Long Beach, CA) and Rachel Henke (Islandia, NY) will be presenting on Microplastics: California and Beyond on Thursday. California is paving the way for microplastics regulation and analytical method development in the U.S. By legislative directive, California will implement a standard testing method by July 2021, require four years of annual testing in drinking water, consider the need for quantitative guidelines, and adopt a statewide strategy to mitigate risk to ecological receptors and coastal ecosystems by 2025. The primary objectives of this presentation are: (1) to review and synthesize the academic research on the fate and transport of microplastics in groundwater and (2) to present potential implications for groundwater as a whole.
