Deadline Approaching: Hazardous Waste Re-Notification due September 1, 2021
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Administrator signed the final Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule (GIR) on October 28, 2016, and it was published in the Federal Register on November 28, 2016. The Rule has been adopted in 28 states and authorized in 4 states across the country. In addition, the Rule is administered by the USEPA in 2 states and 4 US territories. The GIR put forth additional requirements for all small quantity generators (SQGs) of hazardous waste. Section 262.18 of the GIR states that small quantity generators must re-notify the EPA or their state environmental agency of their generator status by September 1, 2021, and every four years thereafter. To learn more, see the EPA’s release and map of where the rule is in effect.
