Roux Recruiting at Hofstra University
Earlier this summer, Roux presented to a group of high school, undergraduate, and graduate students at Hofstra University. Students are currently participating in a summer program, funded by a National Science Foundation grant, where they are conducting environmental and sustainability research under the direction of Hofstra professors. For the program, high school student selection was focused on schools with high concentrations of low-income and underrepresented populations.
The presentation started with a discussion on Life at Roux, including details on the firm’s history, current geographical setting, technical staff, and organizational structure. The environmental consulting industry was covered along with Roux’s stance on selling expertise for our services. Entry level field work and related responsibilities were explained through a series of photos to allow the students to get a glimpse into our world. Featured projects were also discussed to provide specific examples of unique, challenging projects that we work on, and how our services are applied to real-time situations.
“I was very happy to see that the Hofstra Geology, Environment, and Sustainability department is gaining interest in geosciences for students of all levels,” said Douglas Ferraiolo, Project Geologist who presented alongside Joe Duminuco, Executive Vice President, both of whom are Hofstra alumni. “It was a pleasure to go over what we do at Roux with the students, and I hope our talk helps to persuade them to continue their geosciences education and potentially a career in environmental consulting in the future.”
