Drew Howard, MEM to Speak at Environmental Law Oil Symposium
Tuesday, May 7 – Wednesday, May 8 The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Environmental & Energy Law Section (EELS) Petroleum Spills Committee and Legislation Committee are excited to announce they’re bringing together the Annual Oil Spill Symposium and Annual Legislative Forum into a single two-day program for the first time in Albany, New York. The conference is packed with networking events, where environmental leaders, legislators, attorneys, advocates, government officials, and employees on key legal developments in the environmental and energy law fields come together. Hybrid options will be available.
On Wednesday, May 8, from 11am-12pm, Roux’s Drew Howard, MEM will take part in a panel discussion entitled Encouraging Environmental Sustainability and Managing Climate Risk: The Increasing Role of Markets in Meeting the Climate Change Challenge. This session will bring together key experts to discuss these developments from many perspectives, focusing on New York Legislator priorities and accomplishments, concluding a keynote address from the new interim Commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Jonathan Binder. Climate initiatives are an increasing focus of government. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act is requiring the development of a Cap and Invest climate trading program and newly enacted laws and regulations address climate disclosure. These efforts bring market forces directly into the sustainability equation. Even though market-focused approaches can be controversial, America’s CEOs note that sustainability strategies are their top operational priority in the next year, and they expect significant returns from sustainability investments over the next three to five years.
