Got Mold? Roux’s IAQ Practitioners Can Help

Posted on July 30, 2024

Visible mold is often a bellwether of potential water intrusion and/or indoor air quality (IAQ) issues that can lead to insurance claims. Mold claims and water intrusion investigations have skyrocketed in the last decade or so as the number of extreme weather events increases every year. While fast and cheap assessments may only identify and remove surface issues (e.g., visible mold growth), Roux understands that risk management requires determining the actual cause of such impacts, and developing common sense and sustainable solutions to help minimize IAQ risk. The Roux team has decades of experience performing water intrusion and IAQ assessments. Our experts can help to identify the root cause of the issue and navigate the challenges surrounding these assessments and related insurance claims.

IAQ can be affected by a range of factors, including impacts from mold or other microbial contamination caused by flooding or frozen pipes. Extreme weather events, including droughts, wildfires, heavy precipitation (both rain and snow), temperature extremes, and hurricanes, can lead to broader indoor air quality issues also. As the number of extreme weather events continues to increase, controlling negative impacts to IAQ will become a larger challenge for companies, residents, building owners/managers, and other stakeholders.

Indoor air quality issues can affect the indoor environment of all types of properties including hospitals, nursing homes, residences, commercial facilities such as schools and apartment buildings, industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, and warehouses. Based on the breadth of structures and individuals who could be impacted by indoor air quality, understanding and controlling the cause of negative impacts is a necessity.

Evaluating indoor air quality requires specific expertise and a wholistic approach to evaluating internal and external conditions that may be impacting the indoor air. Without a thorough and rigorous investigation, the root causes of poor indoor air quality will not be wholly understood, and the problem may be masked temporarily only to reappear later. Roux’s team of industrial hygienists and engineers have performed a spectrum of IAQ assessments at facilities throughout the United States for a variety of industries and structure types. Our assessments include evaluations of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building envelopes, and potential contaminants, to assist clients with identifying the underlying cause of potential issues.
