Lathika Varanasi to Present at Texas Water Conference

Posted on March 11, 2025

Tuesday, March 18 – Friday, March 21 Taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, the Texas Water 2025 Conference invites attendees to learn about new tools and technology that solve problems through carefully crafted technical sessions.

On Wednesday, March 19, Roux’s Lathika Varanasi, PhD will be presenting a technical session entitled Wastewater Pretreatment: A Spotlight on Heavy Metals Removal and Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Program Framework of Texas Cities from 4:40-5:10pm Central. In the backdrop of the Federally mandated Pretreatment rules and regulations, it has become imperative for many industries to “clean up their acts,” i.e., implement wastewater pretreatment measures prior to wastewater being conveyed to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs). These measures help in the preemptive removal of industrial pollutants, which could otherwise hinder the treatment operations of POTWs.

In this context, this presentation will highlight the importance of heavy metals removal from industrial wastewater. Selected advanced/emerging technologies for effective removal of heavy metals from wastewater will be discussed. Additionally, representative case-studies presented will feature the implementation of heavy metals treatment technologies by industries. Finally, the presentation will showcase the pretreatment program framework implemented by selected Texas cities, including those cities’ recommended local limits for heavy metals in wastewater. The monetary benefits of wastewater pretreatment will be included in the discussions.
