Roux’s Big Apple Brownfield Award Winners
Each year, the New York City Brownfield Partnership formally recognizes successful NYC brownfield cleanup and redevelopment projects at the Big Apple Brownfield Awards. Award-winning projects have had positive effects on the community and have demonstrated excellence in various project categories.
We’re pleased to announce that two of our clients’ projects, Lincoln at Bankside and Terminal Logistics Center, were among this year’s Big Apple Brownfield Award winners! See below for descriptions of the sites and our role on each project.
Lincoln at Bankside
The 2022 Big Apple Brownfield Award for Open Space was presented to the Lincoln at Bankside project. The project team was comprised of Brookfield Properties; Triton Construction; Hill West Architects; Sive, Paget & Riesel; and Roux.
This project, located in a Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA), received a Certificate of Completion after completing remediation in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) in 2021. Remedial efforts included installation of a sheet pile support of excavation (SOE) system to reach remedial excavation depths and limit migration of groundwater contamination; removal of underground storage tanks and hydraulic lifts; and the excavation and disposal of approximately 38,000 cubic yards of soil that was contaminated from former operations at the Site. Terminal Logistics Center
The 2022 Big Apple Brownfield Award for Economic Development was presented to the Terminal Logistics Center project. The project team, comprised of Triangle Equities, Nelson Architects, GF55 Architects, March Construction, and Roux, redeveloped the Site into a 350,000-square foot, state-of-the-art, multi-story industrial air cargo and small business storage facility adjacent to JFK International Airport.
The project went through the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation (NYC OER) Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) to address a hazardous materials E-designation that was assigned to the Site. Roux’s remedial efforts included oversight of the excavation and removal of approximately 67,200 cubic yards of material, of which approximately 35,300 cubic yards of clean soil was transferred to three receiving sites as clean fill through the NYC OER Clean Soil Bank. Additional remediation at the Site included removal of underground storage tanks and the installation of a composite cover system and a vapor barrier system. Read more
