- Xcel Energy is planning to build a 10-megawatt battery complex near the Comanche coal power plant to store energy from renewable solar and wind energy. The Comanche coal power plant is scheduled for retirement by 2030 and the battery system is anticipated to go online in 2025.
- The USEPA has issued six proposal determinations which deny coal facilities requests to continue disposing of coal combustion residuals into unlined surface impoundments.
- The Bremmer Base Tunnel is currently being built under the Alps. The tunnel will consist of a 64-kilometer-long track with two 8-meter diameter borings and will be used as a railway between Austria and Italy.
- The U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates that wind and solar power will account for 16% of total energy generation in 2023, and by 2025, solar is expected to add 72 gigawatts of power to the US.
