Roux is assisting a major developer with soil monitoring and management at a ground-up development project in the heart of the Los Angeles Financial District. During excavation for construction of the footing for the 60+ story building, unexpected hydrocarbon contamination was encountered leading to slowdown and restriction in work activities. Roux was hired to implement South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule 1166 permitting and monitoring and to advise on disposal options for site soils. Roux also conducted site-wide soil sampling and profiling to the expected bottom of the excavation to anticipate and prepare for soil conditions as excavation activities progressed. Work hours varied from early morning to late evenings to overnight, depending on contractor demands and compression of the overall schedule. When completed, the project will include both commercial retail space as well as apartments and associated parking.
