Former Morris Canal Ecological Remedial Investigation

Transportation Authority; New Jersey

OBJECTIVES

Roux completed an ecological remedial investigation to address the impacts of diesel fuel within a freshwater wetland system. Specifically, diesel fuel was released into a freshwater tributary and associated forested wetlands which drain to a reservoir along the former Morris Canal within Hopatcong State Park. The investigation involved the collection of sediment and surface water samples, sediment toxicity testing, and dietary modeling to evaluate the risk to the benthic and invertivorous avian species. A supplemental ERA is currently underway to provide a holistic approach to site-related impacts to the waterways and wetlands.
