The Doe Fund; New York
Due to years of use as auto repair and storage, an E-Designation was assigned to this Site, located at 1355 Rogers Avenue in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. After a comprehensive investigation, including soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling, the project was enrolled in the New York City Office of Environmental Remediation’s (NYCOER) Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP). Remedial action has been completed at the property, as well as the development of a new 8-story building with 122 affordable apartments. The new development will provide housing to several vulnerable community populations, including seniors, the formerly homeless living with HIV/AIDS, the disabled, and those with special needs. The Doe Fund will also provide on-site supportive services that will utilize comprehensive assessments regarding residents' specific physical and mental health needs. The NYC Brownfield Partnership awarded Crystal Towers project the 2020 Big Apple Brownfield Award for Supportive/Affordable Housing.
