Mountain Biking to Fresno Dome
Friday, October 20 from 1:00-6:00 PM
A mountain bike ride along dirt roads and jeep trails (no single track) to and from the beautiful geologic feature of the Fresno Dome. About 22 miles round trip and no driving required—the ride starts at and returns to the Tenaya Lodge. Participants should have some mountain biking experience as this will be reasonably strenuous and at an altitude of 5,000-7,500 feet. Participants seeking a less strenuous ride or needing to get back early will have the option of heading back about half way to the Tenaya Lodge. If anyone would like to “sag” the group in a 4-wheel drive vehicle, you are welcome to follow us. Bring water (at least one bottle, but two much better), snack, shell jacket, and helmet (mandatory), as well as a spare tube and pump if you have them. Note: this trip is limited to 20 people.
Bring your mountain bike and meet at the main entranceway outside the Tenaya Lodge lobby by 12:50 PM Friday, October 20, as we plan to leave no later than 1:00 PM to avoid riding back in the dark. Bike rental is available at Tenaya Lodge, but be sure to make arrangements ahead of time (please see the Lodge Concierge no later than the 11:00 conference break on Friday). If you are ordering a box lunch, place your order early to make sure it is available on time.

Fly Fishing – Merced River
Friday, October 20 from 1:00-8:00 PM
This may not be a “River Runs Through It,” and no, Brad Pitt will not be hosting. But, if you would like to try something new, or are an experienced angler, come enjoy an afternoon in Merced River, one of the most beautiful and scenic rivers in California, for a fully hosted fly fishing trip. This outing is for both beginners and advanced anglers alike. No experience necessary.
We will have professional guides that know the river well. All necessary equipment will be provided by the local fly fishing shop. Bring comfortable walking shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting wet. Be prepared to navigate your way around and over the boulders and slippery rocks around the river. You’ll also want to bring drinking water, energy bars, snacks, and a jacket or sweater in case it gets cold.
The guides will provide instructions on the equipment and on how to fish. They will be there to teach, assist, or just give some advice. Dusk is when the fish will be most active since they will be attacking bugs on the surface of the water. There is nothing like seeing trout crash through the surface of the water and taking your fly. We will be fishing until just after dusk. This trip is limited to 12 people. Attendees must be at least 15 years old. A printed fishing license is required.
Meet in the Tenaya Lodge lobby at 1:00 PM, Friday, October 20, where participants will be given directions to the fly fishing destination and are encouraged to arrange carpools among themselves. Please have the license with you at 1:00 PM when we meet. From the Lodge, we will carpool to the Merced River. It is about a 1 hour and 15 minute drive to the river. We will be there until just after sundown. If you are ordering a box lunch, place your order early to make sure it is available on time. Estimated return time to the Tenaya Lodge 7:30-8:00 PM.
